FALL 2011

Luke Fazio – Tenor, From straight out of Phoenix, AZ, Luke has had a love for music since the day he was born. He graduated from Saguaro High School in Scottsdale, AZ and he's now in the midst of earning a BA in Music Education. Luke enjoys a good game of ping-pong in his spare time, and he can nail soprano pitches by vibrating his lips.

Sarah Crites – Alto, is a sophomore studying secondary education for English. Her past performances include the musicals Hair, Glee, and Mama Mia. She has traveled to Spain, Germany, and Austria with the Red Robe Choir, and is looking forward to carry on her passion in music. Her motto is, “Sing instead of talk, and strut instead of walk.”

Nathan Richard – Piano, is a second year Master’s student in Music Composition here at ASU. He holds a B.M. in Music Education from the University of Maine and is slowly getting used to the climate change. He was the musical director and member of an all male a cappella group at his previous University named The Maine Steiners who have numerous CDs out featuring 13 of his arrangements. While in Maine, Nathan was the accompanist and composer in residence of a choir named Euphony, a 32 mixed voice choir specializing in contemporary choral works. As a pianist, Nathan has accompanied several choirs, and was the assistant conductor of the top touring choir at the University of Maine. He is a Libra who enjoys playing the piano, singing, taco salad, and lemonade.
Trevor Paxton - Bass,
is a junior at ASU
studying Choral Music Education. Having recently transferred from Mesa
Community College where he was highly involved with the vocal jazz ensemble,
he is excited to be a member of Heatwave. He has dabbled in music
composition, written and directed a
choral work and contributed music for several short films. he is also an A&E
reporter for The State Press. Trevor is excited for the opportunity to
continue forward with his love for music, and would like to thank everyone
that has helped him get to where he is now.

Cali Whipple – Soprano, is a freshman at ASU majoring in Psychology. She was involved in jazz choirs in high school including Mountain View’s Premiere, an ensemble in the first Annual East Valley Jazz Bash with clinician Michele Weir, and Arizona’s All-State Jazz. This past summer, Cali attended Jeremy Fox’s Vocal Jazz camp in Iowa, and had the privilege to work with many wonderful jazz musicians. Along with her love for jazz and music in general, Cali enjoys office supplies, colors, and pumpkin pie.
Savanah
McMahon - Soprano, is a freshman studying medicinal biochemistry at
the Barrett Honors College. A graduate from Saguaro High School, she
has been in Saguaro Voices for four years and Saguaro Jazz Choir for
three years. In 2009, she was first chair soprano in the Arizona All
State Jazz Choir. Besides singing and playing guitar, Savanah likes
to read contemporary novels, ride her bike, and eat pasta - all at
the same time.

Tommy Strawser - Tenor, is a first year Master's student in Opera/Musical Theatre Performance at ASU's Herberger Institute and holds a BM in Vocal Performance at West Chester University of Pennsylvania. He has been a resident artist for Brevard Music Center in North Carolina, College Light Opera Company in Massachusetts, and Fulton Theatre in Lancaster, PA. Tommy has sung with a number of professional choirs in and around the Philadelphia area and is very excited to be apart of his first jazz ensemble.
Matthew
Shields – Bass-Baritone, is a Junior earning
his Bachelor’s Degree in Choral Music Education at ASU. Growing up in
Washington State, he has been involved in various choirs, including his
high Select Men’s Choir which, in both 2008 and 2009, went on to win
State Championships. Along with being selected to participate in the
All-Northwest Choir his senior year, he was his school’s Student
Conductor and was given the opportunity to direct the Freshman Boys
Choir for a number of months during his senior year in high school. Matt
is currently a worship leader and campus ministry intern with Hope
Christian Church. Along with his deep love for music, Matt enjoys
baseball, football, hiking, trees, rain, and celery.
Julie
Sebag – Alto
is a
vivacious individual who appreciates the endless possibilities that
await her. Around the age of four, among the endless line of blue
chairs that span La Croisette in Cannes (France), she decided to
start playing violin and still does to this day. She discovered her
love and ability to sing at the age of 11 when she graduated from
Ha'aheo Elementary school (Hilo, Hawaii) and sang with her
classmates Surfin' USA (Beach Boys). Ms. Sebag is a Music Therapy
and Life-Style Science major who enjoys singing Beatles songs 8 days
a wee-eeek, math jokes and is delighted to be a part of Heatwave.
