HEATWAVE

is the Vocal Jazz Ensemble at Arizona State University. The group is SATB, with 8-16 members under the direction of Gregory Amerind. Created as a lab ensemble in August 2009, HEATWAVE has thrilled audiences throughout the Phoenix metro area with concerts at ASU Tempe and ASU Polytech, and around town at private events. Some of the groups that have featured HEATWAVE are The Phoenix Boys Choir, The Phoenix Art Museum, and the office of the Governor of Arizona.

ABOUT THE ENSEMBLE

HEATWAVE is offered as a 1-unit course and is open to all interested students, both music majors and non-music majors, who have a passion and aptitude for this specialized genre. Repertoire includes music from the American Pop, Jazz, and Rock catalogues spanning the last 100 years, and instruction focuses on exploring and building stylistic and pedagogical skills needed to perform in this genre. Concert material consists of arrangements of standards and original compositions, both published and unpublished, unaccompanied and accompanied, representing a wide variety of styles within the Jazz genre.
